As the summer is nearing, the time has come for our reloaded version of the Summer Data Institute. This year, we are delighted to have partnered with the American University in Central Asia in Bishkek. Kyrgyzstan, to deliver a four week intense course on data journalism, a follow up to our bootcamp in Montenegro last year.

We will be rolling out our Data Journalism Manual, over a course of 4 weeks and are looking for motivated lecturers in universities in Kyrgyzstan to join us on this endeavor and help us spread the word on data journalism.

What you can expect is to learn about tools and techniques to work with vast amounts of data, from leading figures in this area and come out with tangible knowledge on how to make understandable and user-friendly visualizations support the stories you are writing.  Last year our participants from Serbia and Montenegro focused on juvenile justice, the story from Kyrgyzstan is on maternal health, in Belarus the participants highlighted consumption of alcohol and risks to health, the Uzbek story is on doing business, a collaboration between participants from Albania and Kyrgyzstan resulted on a story on cancer surge in Albania.

The working language for the institute is English. To apply, you need to be a lecturer in Kyrgyzstan and willing to commit the month of June to exploring the ins and outs of data journalism.

Application deadline is May 14 and all candidates will be notified by May 20, 2017.
